Charged with preserving and sharing the stories of "Old Ironsides" for future generations, we do not charge admission so that all citizens, regardless of means, can access this important part of our national identity. As a private non-profit organization, we likewise receive no direct federal funding. It is the support of friends like you, who understand the value of the lessons learned aboard her decks, who make it possible for the Museum to fulfill its mission in keeping the stories of USS CONSTITUTION alive, inspiring ambitions and pride in visitors of all ages. A story that touches us all, there’s a way for everyone to participate – just choose the option that’s right for you!

"Old Ironsides" by Gordan Grant
Lithograph, 1927

By 1925 “Old Ironsides” was badly in need of repair. The Secretary of the Navy and Congress decided that the repairs should be paid for by donations from the general public. A variety of fundraising efforts, including the sale of lithographs of this painting of CONSTITUTION by Gordan Grant, raised 95% of the $987,000 cost of the ship’s 1927-1931 restoration.
