Annual Events
Chocolate and Wine Tasting (February) Hosted by our Young "Old Ironsides" Society, this annual event is held in February in one of the most romantic settings in Boston – the Commandant’s House in the Charlestown Navy Yard. All proceeds from this event support the educational programming of the Museum. The USS Constitution Museum would like to thank Anchor Capital Advisors, LLC, the presenting sponsor for the 2008 Chocolate and Wine Tasting.
USS Constitution Museum Model Shipwright Guild Model Show (February-March) Each year, from February to early March, the USS Constitution Museum hosts the USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild’s annual Model Show at the USS Constitution Museum. During this month-long show, there are models on display by both amateur and professional modelers. The Museum organizes a variety of family-oriented programs during the course of the show that are free and open to the public.
School Vacation Week Family Activities (February and April) Stop in to experience School Vacation Week in the Navy Yard by participating in hands-on activities: design a Sailor's Valentine, write your name in coded Signal Flags or create other CONSTITUTION crafts! Activities vary. All ages are welcome and admission is by donation. If your group is larger than 10 or more, please call 617-426-1812 ext. 146 for a reservation. Overseer's Dinner (Spring) Held annually in the spring, the Overseers Dinner salutes our largest group of volunteers with a dinner and award presentations. The Board of Overseers are a group of like minded individuals who have one thing in common, preserving the story of one of our nations greatest treasures, "Old Ironsides." This dinner recognizes their contributions of time, talent and treasure. This is the perfect opportunity to meet the Museum family, get to know the organization better and find out what all the excitement is about! Our members contribute in so many ways and truly make things happen! This annual event gives us the opportunity to not only share the latest developments here at the Museum with this select group, but also to simply say thank you for all you do! Special programming and long-time member acknowledgement followed by a light reception. Victory Day (August) Commerate USS CONSTITUTION's famous August 19, 1812 victory over HMS GUERRIERE with a day filled with CONSTITUTION hands-on history! Learn how the Ship earned the nickname of "Old Ironsides," participate in craft activities, sign your name in copper to be fitted on CONSTITUTION, and enjoy some ice cream! Activities vary. Chairman's Dinner and Award Ceremony (mid-Fall) One of the most exciting events of the year, the Chairman’s Dinner is the largest fundraising event for the Museum. Traditionally held in the fall, guests are encouraged to participate in our silent and live auctions, in which all proceeds benefit our educational programs. Presentation of our two highest awards, The Samuel Elliot Morison Award for writing, and the Charles Francis Adams Award for community involvement, follows dinner for a celebratory conclusion to the evening. Bush Memorial Breakfast (early-N0vember) On August 19, 1812, USS CONSTITUTION engaged HMS GUERRIERE in the first frigate-to-frigate battle of the War. “Old Ironsides” emerged victorious, however, Lt. Bush lost his life, becoming the first United States Marine Corps officer to die aboard USS CONSTITUTION. The Ship’s victories helped the United States to protect its freedom and earn the respect of other countries, and the Marines played an important role in this success – sometimes at the highest cost. This annual breakfast recognizes these important contributions and sacrifices that Marines made for our country in years past – and continue to make today. The USS Constitution Museum would like to thank Perini Corporation, the presenting sponsor for the 2007 LT William S. Bush Memorial Breakfast. Collections Open House and Reception (Fall) Members and those who help us build our collection are invited to join us for this extraordinary evening during which our Curatorial Department unveils acquisitions to our collection made in the course of the year. Enjoy this opportunity to talk one-on-one with our curators and learn the interesting story behind each of these pieces of CONSTITUTION’s past.
