Hands-On History Program

For over 200 years, USS Constitution has "sailed" through American history. Let your group experience a piece of the history with our museum educator and then enjoy self-guided exploration of our award-winning, hands-on exhibits. Choose from four different themes to customize the experience to your group's interests.

 

Time: 60 minutes
(20-25 minutes with our educator followed by self-guided exploration)

Hands-On History Themes:

  • All in a Day's Work: Running a ship like Constitution is tough work. Through the study of artifacts, your group will discover what jobs and tools were necessary to make Constitution run effectively and efficiently during ordinary life and battle. Reserve Now!

  • Constructing "Old Ironsides": USS Constitution earned the nickname “Old Ironsides,” but do you know what gives her that incredible strength? Find out how a unique design, American materials, and hundreds of craftsmen built a national symbol. Reserve Now!
     
  • Unfurl the Past:  Have you  ever wondered what it would be like to be a detective? With the help of a museum educator, your group will use primary sources to uncover the story of Constitution's greatest battles during the War of 1812. After unlocking these stories, explore more artifacts and stories in our galleries.
