Constitution under sail
Courtesy Janet Stearns
As CONSTITUTION was approaching her bicentennial in 1997, she underwent an extensive restoration. During this period, schoolchildren from across the country contributed their pennies to help purchase the six sails pictured above, allowing “Old Ironsides” to sail under her own power for the first time in 116 years on July 21, 1997. |
