Vice President of Institutional Advancement
The Vice President of Institutional Advancement will play a critical role as the USS Constitution Museum takes a strategic leap in expanding their development priorities and exploring the possibilities of a capital campaign. The Vice President is responsible for furthering the mission of the Museum through the development, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive development program. As part of the senior management team the Vice President will be charged with strategic leadership and vision and will design and manage the development process, ensuring the implementation of timely cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Responsibilities include providing overall leadership and strategic direction of development activities to Museum staff and the Board of Trustees; growing and managing the development department, including planned giving, corporate sponsorship and membership programs; design and manage the development process, timetable, and budget, ensuring the implementation of timely cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; train, mentor, and lead a Board Committee, working with them to identify prospects and major gift leads, establish priorities, and solicit key donors; identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and new major donors and institute an automated system that assigns responsibility, tracks and monitors progress; and collaborate with the President, Board of Trustees, and volunteers to organize and run events for major donors and donor prospects. Successful candidates have 10+ years of fundraising experience, including: a broad understanding of fundraising activities; ability to identify, cultivate and solicit annual and major donors; and experience with capital campaigns.

Technical Director
The USS Constitution Museum, located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts, seeks an experienced Technical Director to join its Exhibit Department staff. The Technical Director will work with in-house designers, consultants, an illustrator, a scenic painter and others to construct and install a 3500 square foot permanent exhibition to be opened in April 2009. The project includes executing exhibit prototypes and exhibit elements. Responsibilities include drafting construction plans from design plans, planning construction, and supervising and executing museum exhibition construction. The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in technical direction with formal theatrical scenery construction training at the graduate level (or equivalent professional experience). Experience in finished carpentry and construction drawing production are necessary; experience in exhibit construction and CAD software are preferred. Strong supervisory, leadership, communication, drafting, scheduling and time management skills are required. The Technical Director reports to the Director of Exhibits and is an active member of the exhibition team. The position of Technical Director is full-time and grant funded, starting in April 2008. Youth Empowerment Summer (YES!) Internship
Boston teens who have registered with Boston Youth Fund’s Hopeline for summer employment qualify for the Youth Empowerment Summer Internship Program at the USS Constitution Museum. This program combines an introduction to Boston history, the museum work environment and professional experience. Interns will be employed in a variety of capacities including: interpreting exhibits for museum visitors, planning and implementing programs for summer camp groups, developing public speaking skills, engaging the community in activities, and empowering themselves by developing confidence and leadership qualities. Interns are responsible for a variety of tasks including: active participation in training and presenting skill activities, program facilitation, and attending events and field trips to other museums and cultural sites. Interns will become familiar with the galleries of the Museum, lead hands-on programs and activities for camp groups, and provide visitors with both general and specific information on USS CONSTITUTION. Interns must participate in all aspects of the program including the development of a program contract. The Interns will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the history and importance of USS CONSTITUTION and use that knowledge base in their work with museum visitors and staff throughout the summer. Interns will have the opportunity to visit several cultural and fun Boston sites throughout the Internship. Questions?
